I want to create a site like

www.mixergy.com or
tv.winelibrary.com

Both of which are Wordpress sites. I guess they’re the .org handmade sites, not the free .com ones.

Is it hard to achieve this kind of design? Are there any templates that will get me close? How do I go about building a site like this?

Hi i took a look at mixergy and that is not a difficult Wordpress theme customization to do. Very simple as a matter of fact. There are over 1000 free WP themes to pick from so yeah you just start with a free theme is close to what you want and then customize it with you own graphics and layout by modifying the theme’s style.css file. all themes have a style.css file. here is where you will find a directory of free WP themes > http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ You can also get some custom paid themes. I professionally cutomize Wordpress themes, create original website graphics, do dark magic coding and design custom Flash movies for a living so if you want i can do it for you for a very reasonable price. If you want to take this on yourself it will be time consuming, but it is not rocket science so just start out by picking a free theme and then step by step you can find all the answers you need by Googling them. There is huge support for WP and all the answers you would ever need are already answered in cyberspace.

I know I can use phtoshop to do this. Can I use Microsoft Expression to design workpress, joomla or drupal template? Is it easier or more difficult?

Wordpress templates are generally CSS with PHP elements, you need a good understanding of CSS but using the wordpress codex resource you will be able to find the PHP code to create a layout.

It it a good idea to download a free template and have a look how it is put together.

I plan on getting a number of certificates from W3 schools and developing a folio which will include wordpress, flash, dreamweaver and photoshop. I will be doing this in my spare time!

It is possible to develop all that in a year, but not sure where the level you will achieve will get you. Not sure about using wordpress, but it would be worth either going with Flash or photoshop – only try the other once you think you’ve done enough on the one of them.
As for development – ignore JR when he talks crap about professionals not using IDE’s – but they use things like Eclipse ( I use JDeveloper as I’ve used Oracle for some time ). An IDE like Eclipse has the concept of projects ( which I assume you’ll be working on ). There are also versions of Eclipse and plug-ins which help work with HTML, PHP, Java, C++ etc. also a wide range of databases. Eclipse is free to download ( JDeveloper is similar – not so widely used though ) from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/. Using this may add to your credibility with employers rather than say you’ve been playing with Notepad++!

I have searched youtube and everywhere. I just downloaded Gimp a couple days ago but I really don’t have enough time to learn everything that’s on it. I need someone who can design me a celebrity inspired theme for free. Just someone who enjoys doing these types of projects anyway. Please feel free to email me if you wouldn’t mind doing this. How do I design a Word Press blog and have it show up on a clients domain name?

You can’t unless you have access to the server. If you are installing Wordpress for a client and they have given you the log in info to the Control Panel, just look for WordPress in the Control Panel. Most good hosting services already provide WordPress ready to be installed with the Control Panel’s Installer.

you could create a similar site with either wordpress or dw… it is really up to you…

however, dw offers a better long term tool for future site development in that if you learn the ‘how to’ things in dw, you can expand for more complex sites later… wordpress has some limitations for ease of design creation, though if you have the patience to dig into all of the files you can really do just about anything with wordpress – it is unlikely, though that you would be able to take the majority of what you learn to do in wordpress and translate that to any type of career – I have yet to see a job posting for wordpress designer.

of course there are other design tools you could use but dw is as good a place as any to start with…

i searched the net and found nothing but a few softwares like artisteer which is very limited
and u can’t design what u want exactly, it’s a samples nothing more or less, plus i couldn’t
find the full version of the softwares so it’s making watermark on the saved templates.

You’re contradicting yourself.
A "professional" wordpress theme is not automatically generated. Likewise, you don’t jump straight into doing "professional" wordpress themes. You start by learning how to code in html and css (photoshop isn’t actually play that big a part), then design your first wordpress theme, and slowly improve your own skills, until you get good enough to be considered "professional"
