Wordpress design capabilities – is this design possible?
I’m toying with the idea of creating an affiliate marketing website/blog using wordpress. I really like some of the magazine style themes, especially the MagPress theme. What I would like to know is whether or not it is possible to create half static/half blog pages within Wordpress? I know you can do both individually, but can you do both on the same page. I’ll give an example of what I am looking for.
I want a homepage in which the top half is "static" in that it never changes, while about midway down its sectioned off into different categories of blog posts showing new posts and featured posts. I would also like a menu bar that had about 5-7 different items (5-7 different products) and on each one of those pages have the same half static/half blog aspect as well. That way I could advertise the product at the top, then below use some type of autoblogging plugin that constantly changes the posts with new posts about the individual products, mainly so visitors can get different reviews of the products. Is this possible?
I know for a fact you can do this with the Headway Theme for WordPress but it costs money and has a bit of a learning curve. I am not sure if any free themes offer this.
How to style posts on a Wordpress blog?
I have a self hosted wordpress blog and am using a very simple theme that I created, and I would REALLY appreciate it if someone with more experience w/ Wordpress could take a second to help me out…
I’ll just give all the info and then hopefully someone could shed some light on this for me because as simple as it may be, I am extremely confused and frustrated lol…
First off, my blog is located at: http://ryancallahan.com/blog/
And here is the format (pretty simple) that I am trying to get my posts to appear in upon being published:
DATE
-Format – April 10, 2010
-Font – Arial, Helevetica, Sans-Serif
-Font Size – 10pt
-Font Color – #696969
POST
-Font – Arial, Helevetica, Sans-Serif
-Font Size – 10pt
-Font Color – #ffffff
That’s it, that’s the only content from each post that I’d like to appear on my blog…and then have a div that i already uploaded to my current theme’s images folder that I want to appear in between each post (the divider i want is located at: http://www.ryancallahan.com/blog/wp-content/themes/default/images/blogdiv.jpg)
THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE TO ANYBODY THAT CAN HELP ME ACHIEVE THIS!
That’s actually easy, as long as you:
a) know CSS;
b) know a little about date controls in PHP
c) know your way around WP themes.
I am sure there are hundreds of tutorials available on the net. Even in the Wordpress Codex too.
Your styles (font, size, colour) can be done with CSS. You just need to assign your post with a certain CSS class when you make your template. The date can be done with PHP (which is the basis of WP and its templates). Your only task is to learn your way around a WP template. Have a look at the Codex and then practice on the default themes. I’m sure you’ll find your way.
Editing Post Title in Wordpress?
I’m working on my first ever wordpress theme. http://preview.butterfly-dreams.info/ I got mostly everything figured out except that I want to edit the post title. which would be Hello World. I’m using the default theme and i can’t seem to find where I have to edit it in the style.css. what part of the style.css would have to edit?
Hey,
I have checked your site, and you don’t use default theme anymore
If you want to delete hello world, usually will be done in
Admin/Post/and look for "Hello World" you can either edit the title as you like, or delete and create other one.
Good luck with your new blog
Calling all Wordpress people!?
Hi can someone who is familiar with Wordpress pls help me out with this!
I know that wordpress was initially made for blogging, but I’m not interested in that at this stage. I am a beginner and all I want to do is to get a 3 page static html website up live. Here’s what I have done so far:
Got my hosting server (godaddy)
Downloaded wordpress.
Created a MySQL database on the host server and connected wordpress to it.
Designed a simple web page on Fireworks.
Converted said design to HTML with an attached Stylesheet. (called index.html & style.css)
Typed in the comment on the stylesheet so that wordpress knows its a theme.
This is where I am stuck. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial or tell me what I should do next – I notice that the default theme has lots of php files. Do I need them if my site will have no blog and will just be static html pages? I am new to php so only know what it stands for.
I’m doing a static html site first just to get my head round wordpress.
Thanks guys!

What are some cute/pretty hairstyles with a side-swept bangs/fringe?
Next time I get my hair cut, I think I’m going to get a side fringe. Currently my hair is like this:

I’ve checked on google for some styles, but I’m not sure which one is the nicest. My hair will be about shoulder length when I get it cut. I’m 17.
Thanks ![]()
You could curl it and curl your bangs to one side with it, I find that cute ![]()

You can do anything just be imaginative ![]()

Will a word press blog plug in fit with my style of site?
Basically what does a wordpress blog do and will it change the style of my site?
A WordPress blog is completely seperate from your site and unless you know how to design and code designs to the WordPress theme format, you won’t be able to integrate the design. You can, however, look at the WordPress theme database for some pre-made themes: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
this blog theme is so cool – How do i get it for my wordpress blog?
here’s the imeage: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3284/2987202628_191eeaf975_o.jpg
It’s a theme in Myopera designs (http://my.opera.com) and the name is ‘new style’
in the images the css is included. so how can i get this layout in my wordpress blog?
Or just give me some layouts like this for my wordpress blog.
Are you talking www.wordpress.com? If that’s it, then, what you do is, pay the $15 per year for the ability to add your own CSS and then upload your own body background image to your media library and then use one of the "Sandbox" templates and then modify the heck out of the CSS!
Or if you have a wordpress.org software downloaded and running on your own website, then, what’s the gripe? Go to that website and look at the source and dredge around and figure out its CSS and find that background image and do it all on your own. Be a sneak and copy.
How to create a drop-down at wordpress sidebar?
I want to make a drop-down at wordpress sidebar using ‘text’ widget. This drop-down is used instead of ‘links’ widget. Because, if I used ‘links’ widget, my blog’s sidebar will be very long. I used this script
<form><select
on change="window.open(this.option[this.selectedIndex].value’_blank’)"
style="width:230px;color:#D40055;background:#D3BC5F"
name="menu"
size="0">
<option>title</option>
<option value="web url">first link</option>
<option value="web url">second link</option>
</select></form>.
After I clicked ’save’, it only appears ‘titlefirst linksecond link’.
Is there any special script for making drop-down at wordpress?
This will show a list when you hover over the title:
Create a new text widget and then look at the code of the published site, there should be an id on the widgets like li id="text-1234567" class="widget text-widget", but with a different string of digits
Use that id to style your drop down, you don’t need any javascript.
Here is your css:
#sidebar ul li#text-123456
{
position: relative;
}
#sidebar ul li#text-1234567 ul
{
position: absolute;
display: none;
// other styles to make it look how you want here
background: #ffffff;
}
#sidebar ul li#text-1234567:hover ul
{
display: block;
}
Here is what to put in your text box:
<ul>
<li>Drop down link</li>
<li>Dropt down link</li>
</ul>
Or just set a fixed height on the widget,
li#text-1234567,
li.widget-links
{
height: 200px;
overflow: auto;
}
Which is the best magazine style wordpress theme?
It´s confusing. I already looked at thousands of options but I found them difficult to use.
I´m new to blogging.
I will appreciate your help.
Zinmag Primus is my favorite.
